Johannesburg CBD Clean-Up

In an effort to promote cleanliness and enhance the appeal of Johannesburg’s Central Business District (CBD), First National Bank (FNB) spearheaded the first monthly clean-up on Tuesday, 20th February 2024. This inaugural event marked the beginning of a year-long initiative aimed at ensuring the CBD remains clean and attractive for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

The clean-up was a collaborative effort, with FNB’s staff from the Bank City precinct taking the lead. They were joined by several key partners, including Excellerate Services ZA, Excellerate Precinct Management, Johannesburg Central SAPS, The FIRM, Pikit Up, and the Community Policing Forum, demonstrating a strong community spirit and commitment to improving the local environment.

The targeted area for this clean-up initiative was bounded by Rahima Moosa Street in the north, Rissik Street in the east, Ntemi Piliso Street in the west, and Commissioner Street in the south.

The scope of work included the removal of graffiti, weeds, litter, refuse, rubble, and illegal dumping. Additionally, high-pressure washing was conducted to ensure that the streets and public spaces were thoroughly cleaned and revitalized.

The success of this clean-up initiative highlights the positive impact that collaborative community efforts can have on urban environments. By working together, residents, businesses, and local authorities can make a significant difference in creating a cleaner, safer, and more inviting city for everyone.

FNB and its partners have committed to continuing this monthly clean-up initiative throughout the year, underscoring their dedication to maintaining a clean and vibrant CBD.

Through ongoing community engagement and collaborative action, they aim to set a precedent for responsible urban stewardship and inspire others to join them in their efforts to keep Johannesburg clean and green.
